Rapunzel! It's Jack. Hiccup said you're staying with us for a while since Pitch gave you a scare, so you're getting the top floor of the house to yourself. Hic's room is yours now and I'll be bunking downstairs to keep him company.

Do you mind if I ask what Pitch did?

Oh! Um, thank you. I hope I'm not too much of a bother.

[She takes a deep breath.]

I had some...really bad nightmares. Like, worse than I've ever had before. When I woke up he was in my apartment with these creatures. He knew things about me...about my mother...

Yeah, he's ... He'll be okay, he got messed up in the head for a while there. Sorry you had to deal with that.

Isn't he always like that...?

Surprisingly, no. He's actually not that bad, I don't know what happened.

[ Although he does; the Fearlings' attack on their master isn't anything he'll be sharing, though. ]

But he's...he's the Boogeyman! Isn't that what he's supposed to do?

I make blizzards come, sometimes. That doesn't mean it's all there is to me, does it?

Oh! Oh, no. That isn't what I meant.

It's just...he was so scary, Jack. And it seemed...well, it just seemed like he was enjoying it.

He won't come after you if you're around me. You can stay with us a while, if you want.

Jack...how do you know him?

Back where I come from, we're both ... I guess the easiest word to use is spirits. He's always existed for as long as I've been like this. Anyway, I had to fight him before I got sucked in here at Christmas and Pitch followed not long after.

But we're not — I mean, it's hard to stay someone's enemy when you get to know them, y'know? That sounds so stupid. Neither of us can die, so constantly arguing is a bit pointless.

Is there any way to get him to stop scaring people like that?

About as much as getting me to stop freezing things. He'll get better, I promise. Pitch likes to scare people but he goes the subtle route, mostly.

[ Snorting softly. ]

I told you, didn't I? He won't scare you around me, doesn't bother trying that anymore, and Toothless is here, animals always sense Fearlings faster than people do. Let's not forget the mighty Haddock, he'll complain at Pitch until he backs off.

You don't have to be scared around us, Rapunzel. We'll have a lot of fun, instead.

I know. I...I trust you, and Hiccup, and Toothless...

But what about the other people here? Won't he try and scare them?

If they're not used to him being a jerk by now, they never will be. I'll take care of the kids.

He goes after kids?

Well, he ... Yeah. He's basically made to sense fear. The belief of people who know he's there is what sustains him. And me. Kids are supposedly easier believers.

Isn't there some way for people to believe in him without him frightening them?

Rapunzel, it's the fear he needs.

[She's frowning a lot on her end.]

Then...then I want to help, too. Especially if he tries that on children.

It's kind of my job, but alright.

Really? You'll let me?

There's nothing to it, really. Uh. Keep a light on if Pitch gets angry, distract the kids by showing them there's nothing to be afraid of.

Yeah. You can't be scared if you're having fun, most of the time.
